Register to Vote

Who is eligible to vote?
Every US citizen age 18 or older who has resided in the city or ward for 10 days before any election. If a person moves within this state later than 10 days before an election, they shall vote at his/her previous election district or ward. If a person is convicted of treason, a felony or bribery, they are not allowed to vote unless his/her civil rights are restored.

Register in Person:
Eligible voters can register in person at the City Clerk's office between 7:30am and 4:30pm Monday - Friday (Except on Holidays)

Register at your polling location on election day:
Eligible voters can register at their polling location on election day. You must bring proof that you have lived at your present location for 10 days preceding the election. The elector must provide proof of residence giving his or her complete name and address. Acceptable forms of proof of residence include:

  • A current and valid Wisconsin driver license or Wisconsin state identification card.
  • Any other official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or unit.
  • Any identification card issued by an employer in the normal course of business and bearing a photo of the card holder, but not including a business card.
  • A real estate tax bill or receipt for the current year or the year preceding the date of the election.
  • A university, college, or technical college identification card (must include photo) ONLY if the voter provides a fee receipt dated within the last 9 months or the institution provides a certified housing list to the municipal clerk.
  • A gas, electric, or telephone service statement (utility bill) for the period commencing no earlier than 90 days before Election Day.
  • Bank statement.
  • Paycheck.
  • A check or other document issued by a unit of government. (For example: Vehicle Registration, Vehicle Title, Social Security Information, etc.)
  • An affidavit on public or private social service agency letterhead identifying a homeless voter and describing the individual’s residence for voting purposes.
  • Residential lease that is effective on date of registration. (Not valid if registering by mail.)
